Private tutor in Apple Valley, CA
Education
I studied Creative Writing for two years at Pratt Institute. At Pratt, writing majors start writing on the first day of freshman year. In other words, they learn by doing and by having their efforts rigorously responded to in critiques by hard-working peers and inspired, accomplished instructors. Along the way, writing majors read widely and deeply in contemporary and classical literatures; they study literary and media theory, science and math, grammar and logic. But the primary focus is on writing, and the curriculum flows outward from and is fueled by writing as the chief activity
Experience
I have tutored students across the United States through Wyzant's Online Tutoring Program. I spent two years helping elementary students learn to read through the America Reads Program. I have experience working with children in remedial English classes, non-native English speakers, and anxiety-prone children.

Hobbies
As a child, I often had a hard time expressing myself. There was a lot going on in my head, but it did not always show on the outside. People would think little of me until they read what I wrote! Over the years, I have met many people in similar situations. They have so much to say, but they do not have the tools to say it. Often they have been called "dumb" or they think of themselves as stupid. However, I am a firm believer that the question is not, "Are you smart?" but, rather, "How are you smart?" Some thrive in a classroom environment, while others need a one-on-one approach to discover their unique way of learning. More importantly than merely giving information, I do my best to instill confidence in my students and help them find their path to passionate expression. Instead of always speaking, I patiently listen to my students and let them teach me how they need to be taught, and provide them the tools to say what they need to say.
